Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold, cubed

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup cinnamon chips (or chopped pecans, optional)

Maple Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon milk (adjust for consistency)

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Form the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If desired, fold in the cinnamon chips or nuts at this stage.

Transfer to Pan: Scoop the dough into the prepared cake pan and gently press it down to form an even layer, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Make the Maple Glaze: While the scone bake cools slightly, prepare the maple glaze. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and a pinch of salt until smooth and drizzle-able. Adjust the amount of milk as necessary for your desired consistency.

Glaze the Scone Bake: Remove the scone bake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Carefully drizzle the maple glaze over the warm scone bake before slicing into wedges.

Serve: Serve warm and enjoy, possibly with a side of fresh fruit or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgence!
