Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)

1 large egg

1 tsp salt

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Make the Dough: In a large bowl or a stand mixer, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 5 minutes.

First Rise: Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt ½ cup of butter. Add in the minced garlic, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.

Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 inches long, then tie each rope into a knot. Place the knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Second Rise: Cover the knots loosely with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Brush with Garlic Butter: After the second rise, brush the tops of the knots generously with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and a pinch of sea salt over each roll.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. Serve warm and enjoy the garlicky goodness!
