Savory Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry in 30 Minutes

1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets

1 red bell pepper, sliced thin

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch piece of fresh ginger, grated

1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

2 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Cooked jasmine rice or steamed rice, to serve

Instructions
 

Prepare the Beef Marinade: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until the beef is evenly coated. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes while you prepare the veggies.

    Steam the Broccoli: In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and steam the broccoli florets for about 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and just tender. Remove from heat and set aside.

      Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

        Cook the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the skillet in a single layer. Cook without stirring for about 2 minutes until browned. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

          Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced red bell pepper and cooked broccoli. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.

            Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef back to the skillet with the vegetables. Drizzle with sesame oil and add crushed red pepper flakes if using. Stir well to combine all the ingredients, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through.

              Serve: Remove from heat. Serve hot over cooked jasmine rice or steamed rice, and garnish with sliced green onions.
