Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 teaspoon sea salt flakes (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until creamy and light, about 2-3 minutes.

Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating well after each addition until fully incorporated.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Spread approximately two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan, pressing it firmly to create an even layer.

Pour the caramel sauce over the base layer, ensuring it covers evenly. Then, crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer to create a topping.

Using the back of a spoon, gently press the crumbled dough into the caramel to help secure it.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the top is set. The center may seem slightly soft, but it will firm up as it cools.

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, drizzle some additional caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with sea salt flakes for that perfect salted touch.

Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan, then lift them out using the parchment paper. Cut into squares or bars and enjoy!
