Ingredients

For the tart crust:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 large egg yolk

2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

For the filling:

4 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons butter, melted

For the maple mascarpone:

1 cup mascarpone cheese

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

For garnish:

Chopped walnuts (optional)

Fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

Make the tart crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg yolk and add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently until a dough forms. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the filling: In another bowl, toss the sliced pears with brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and melted butter. Set aside to marinate for about 10 minutes.

Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled tart dough to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Carefully transfer the dough to the pan, pressing it into the corners and trimming any excess. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling.

Blind bake the tart crust: Place a piece of parchment paper on the crust and fill it with baking weights or dried beans. Bake the crust for 15 minutes. Remove the weights and parchment, then bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until lightly golden. Let it cool slightly.

Assemble the tart: Arrange the marinated pear slices evenly over the pre-baked tart crust. Bake the assembled tart for 25-30 minutes or until the pears are tender and the edges are slightly caramelized.

Prepare the maple mascarpone: While the tart bakes, combine the mascarpone cheese, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt in a mixing bowl. Whisk until smooth and creamy.

Serve: Once the tart has cooled slightly, slice it into wedges. Serve warm or at room temperature topped with a generous dollop of maple mascarpone. Optionally, sprinkle with chopped walnuts and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
