Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

For Serving:

Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Apple Filling:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss well until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the crumble topping.

      Make the Crumble Topping:

        - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.

          - Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If using pecans, fold them in.

            Assemble the Crumble:

              - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

                - Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the bottom of the dish.

                  - Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the apple filling, ensuring even coverage.

                    Bake:

                      - Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

                        Serve:

                          - Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.
