Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) penne pasta

1 cup (240 ml) marinara sauce

1 cup (240 ml) ricotta cheese

1 cup (100 g) grated mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup (100 g) sugar

1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 large eggs

1/4 cup (60 ml) whole milk

1/2 cup (50 g) all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 pinch salt

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Ricotta Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and eggs. Whisk until well combined and creamy.

Add Dry Ingredients: Sift in the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt to the ricotta mixture. Stir gently until just mixed. Avoid over-mixing.

Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the cooked penne pasta with marinara sauce. Then, gently fold in the ricotta mixture, ensuring the pasta is well coated.

Assemble the Bake: In a greased 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish, layer half of the pasta mixture. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top. Add the remaining pasta mixture, and finish with the rest of the cheese on top.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
