1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Optional: 1/4 cup (40g) cornstarch for a lighter texture, or add-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or lemon zest (to taste)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

      Add Vanilla: Blend in the vanilla extract until well combined.

        Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and optionally cornstarch (if using). This helps to create a lighter texture for your cookies.

          Mix Dry and Wet Together: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the butter and sugar mixture. Mix on low speed until just combined. If desired, mix in any optional add-ins like chocolate chips or lemon zest to customize your cookies.

            Shape the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and form it into a log shape or press it into a flat piece, about 1/2 inch thick. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
