2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ cup breadcrumbs (for topping)

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the penne pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

    Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
