Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/2 cup buttermilk (room temperature)

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

2 large eggs

1/4 cup melted butter (cooled)

1 tsp vanilla extract

For coating: 1/2 cup granulated sugar + 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a mini muffin tin or a doughnut hole pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Prepare Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, applesauce, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The batter will be thick.

Fill the Pan: Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin or doughnut hole pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.

Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The tops should be lightly golden.

Cool Slightly: Allow the doughnut holes to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Prepare Coating: In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating.

Coat the Doughnut Holes: While still warm, roll each doughnut hole in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.

Enjoy: Serve warm for the best flavor, and enjoy the cozy, comforting aroma of cinnamon spice!

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: Makes approximately 24 doughnut holes.
