Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20)

½ lb Italian sausage, casings removed

1 cup finely chopped onion

1 cup finely chopped bell pepper (green preferred)

1 cup finely chopped mushrooms

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup fresh breadcrumbs

½ cup milk

1 large egg

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

8 oz provolone cheese, sliced

½ cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Optional: additional cheese for topping (such as cheddar)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Mix the Meatloaf: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, sautéed vegetables, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Use your hands to mix until just combined—be careful not to overwork the mixture.

Shape the Loaf: Transfer the meat mixture to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a greased loaf pan. Shape it into a loaf shape (about 8 inches long).

Add Cheese: In the center of the meatloaf, make a trench and layer half of the provolone cheese. Then, fold the meat mixture over the cheese, encasing it completely. Top the meatloaf with the remaining slices of provolone, covering it well.

Bake the Meatloaf: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). If desired, sprinkle additional cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking for a gooier finish.

Rest and Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes. This helps to retain the juices. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before slicing.

Enjoy: Serve your Classic Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes or a fresh salad for a hearty meal!
