Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk mixed with 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar)

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for melting)

1/4 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a mini muffin pan or bite-sized doughnut hole pan with cooking spray.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Mix Sugars: In another bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and egg using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.

Add Wet Ingredients: Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the sugar and egg mixture. Mix until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently until just combined. Be cautious not to overmix. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips for a richer doughnut hole.

Fill the Pan: Use a spoon or a small cookie scoop to fill each cavity of the prepared pan about 2/3 full with batter.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Allow the doughnut holes to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Coat in Sugar: Once cooled, roll each doughnut hole in powdered sugar to coat evenly.

Serve: Serve the delicious chocolate doughnut holes immediately, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
