Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups broccoli florets

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 medium onion, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Salt and pepper, to taste

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 15-30 minutes to enhance tenderness.

Blanch the Broccoli: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the broccoli florets for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Remove and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Stir-Fry Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the beef broth, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar. Set this aside to use later.

Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion, garlic, and grated ginger. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Cook the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the skillet. Stir-fry for approximately 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through.

Add Vegetables: Add the blanched broccoli and sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are heated through.

Combine with Sauce: Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Finalize and Serve: Drizzle the sesame oil over the stir-fry and give it a final stir. Remove from heat, garnish with sesame seeds, and serve hot over cooked rice or noodles.
