Ingredients

4 whole wheat pita breads

3 tablespoons coconut oil (melted)

1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1 medium apple (finely diced, preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon maple syrup (for drizzling)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Pita Bread: Cut each pita bread into wedges (about 8 wedges per pita).

Mix the Coating: In a medium bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and sea salt. Stir until well mixed.

Coat the Pita Wedges: Place the pita wedges in a large mixing bowl, then pour the cinnamon-sugar mixture over them. Toss until each wedge is evenly coated.

Add the Apples: In a small bowl, toss the diced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning. Gently fold the apples into the coated pita wedges, ensuring they’re well distributed.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the pita wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they have space between them to allow for even baking.

Bake the Chips: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pita chips are crispy and golden brown. Be sure to check on them halfway through to give them a gentle toss for even browning.

Drizzle with Maple Syrup: Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Drizzle with maple syrup just before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.

Serve: Enjoy your homemade Apple Cinnamon Baked Pita Chips warm or at room temperature. They make for a perfect snack or a delightful dessert option!
